We often get caught up in the ups and downs of life, taking for granted the everyday little things that have the potential to make us happy if only we stop and appreciate them. As travellers, there’s often the danger to put pressure on trips to constantly be exciting, out of the ordinary and to always reveal something new about life or about ourselves. However, this is not always the case. Sometimes we might not get that big epiphany that completely changes our world perspective. Sometimes we get a quiet reassurance that life can be completely and incredibly breath-taking.

“AND FROM THE ASHES THERE CAME NEW LIFE”, LISBON, PORTUGAL

Lisbon was a weird one. This beautiful, crumbling city definitely has a vibe. It’s hot and faded, dreamy and hazy. Out of breath and sweating, you marvel at yet another view atop one of Lisbon’s many vertical ascents. Trolley cars announce themselves with loud rings and screeching metal, reminding you that this is where old meets new.

“LIFE COMES IN PHASES.”

When I was sixteen I took the first big trip of my life. I had been going through a hard time and wasn’t really happy with myself or the world around me. I was sad. Being sad is not a permanent state of mind, but I, being so young, didn’t know that at the time. I needed something to bring me out of my own head, something that would open my eyes to all the wonderful things in the world. That thing turned out to be travel.
